Buffalo

Late Season Buffalo Evaluation

I was able to get boots on the ground this weekend and see first hand what is going on in Buffalo. We’re going to break down position by position.

Wings

Obviously this is where Buffalo has the most depth.

1. Elmos- This is the elite tier wing. Everything works together. The sauce is perfect, wings are properly sized and crispy. The bar is incredible, similar to the GAP.

2. Prohibition Pub- Fantastic wing with a very subtle sweetness in the buffalo, unexpected flavor but superb quality as well. We went here before the game and it was a wild scene.

3. Wingnutz- Recommended by Jake, Wingnutz was excellent, just a small step behind the top two. Definitely unique in the sauce department and lightly breaded which gives a nice crunch.

4. Gabriels Gate- Very hipster place, I felt like I was in Portland. Wings were good, especially if you like extra crispy. Average sauce. This is where I drew the line for above average.

5. The Pub- Awesome dive bar but I’d have to give the wings another chance, they came out plain but at least were good quality. They were very busy with Christmas Karaoke which are the two worst things that can happen to a bar. Definitely would go back another time though.

6. Anchor bar- The alleged original buffalo wing spot. Disappointing wings, floppy lower quality chicken, really underwhelming sauce flavor. Cool place to see but not worth getting the wings.

Sandwiches

This is the side of the menu that Buffalo has a lot of holes. The first thing I had was a decent reuben until I tasted the cinnamon they inexplicably put on it, there is no place for that in society. Buffalo’s claim to fame is their “Beef on Weck”. This sandwich is an abomination. The beef is fine but the roll is covered in terrible seeds like something you’d find in the back of the spice drawer that no one has ever used. Then they add so much friggin sea salt your kidneys will wonder why you’re drinking ocean water. The lone bright spot was the philly cheesesteak from Wingnutz; very cheesy, good cut of steak, nice onions and peppers.

Beverages

1.  Molson Canadian- Pretty decent beer, light enough to slug a bunch down in a shed or anywhere really.

2. Genessee- I can’t give this one a fair rating as I only had the cream ale which was like a creamsicle, surprisingly smooth though.

3. Labatts Blue- No one enjoys shitty beers like I do but this was a tough one. I drank them to fit in but will not seek out Labatts again.

In the non-alcoholic spotlight is Tim Hortons. This is a must visit establishment. The donuts are fantastic and I had a great experience here with the hockey rink table. As for the quality of the coffee, I won’t besmirch the pride of Canada, but I am looking forward to my Dunkies this morning.

Final Thoughts

Overall Buffalo is a decent city with incredible fans. These people truly are different. Everyone has full Bills gear on all the time. They don’t say goodbye when they leave, they say Go Bills. Even though we are Pats fans they offered us the finest gifts of booze and drugs. If any fan base deserves a ring this year it is Bills Mafia.

Since it’s Christmas I’ll throw out a couple of bets to fade while we’re here.

Chiefs -2.5 @ Steelers (43.5)

The Chief’s are getting Worthy involved and Patty has plenty of weapons, they should be able to put up decent points again. It looks like Pickens could be back so I’m hoping the Steelers can keep up and make it an interesting game at least. I’ll lean over.

Chiefs 27, Steelers 23

Ravens -5.5 @ Texans (46.5)

I had high hopes for the Texans but they just haven’t been right and now with Dell out I dont have much faith. The Ravens are rolling and getting into late season form where they kick the shit out of teams right up until it matters in the playoffs. Josh Allen left the MVP door open after the Pats game so maybe this is where Lamar locks it down.

Ravens 42, Texans 20

The Antithesis

I had no intention of writing, but when Jake’s Takes returned and I had already faded every pick, I had to put pen to paper. The moment was just too perfect.

Browns (-2) @ Texans (44.5)

How could you not be a fan of CJ Stroud? However, a rookie QB and coach in their first post season going up against this Brown’s team, the best defense in the league with come back player of the year Joe Flacco, is not a good spot for the Texans. When these teams played in week 16 the Texans D had no answer for Amari Cooper who put up 265 yards and 2 TDs. This could be a repeat if he’s healthy.       Browns 34, Texans 20

Miami (+4.5) @ KC (43.5)

Hopefully Mike McDaniel wears his “I wish it were colder” shirt again. Everyone is up in arms about the dolphins poor record in the frigid weather, and there is something to that. However, this team can run the ball. Achane didn’t play when these teams met in Germany earlier this year. And which running back has the highest yards per carry average in NFL history? Of course that would be Beattie Feathers of the 1934 Bears. Who holds the second highest though? De’Von Achane with 7.8 per run. The Chiefs should not be favored this much in any game. This season Mr. Pfizer has been about as effective as the jab he loves so much. I’ll let the number keep going up and bet Miami before kickoff.        KC 23, Miami 20

Pittsburgh (+9.5) @ Buffalo (33.5)

Enough with the weather issues, these are men who play football for a living. The only people that might be affected by the weather are the soft athletic trainers. Buffalo is good for a turnover or three to set up some short field scores for the Steelers. I could see this over hitting just off Josh Allen playing against himself; picks and consequent TD’s to answer those picks. Buffalo 23, Pitt 18

Green Bay (+7.5) @ Dallas (50.5)

While not necessarily a fade of the take, I am Packing the cheese here. Dak has never covered at home in the playoffs, the Cowboys are post season choke jobs. Jordan Love is on fire down the stretch and should have no problem matching Dallas’ scoring. I’ll take them on the money line too and sail the seas of cheese into the divisional round.  Pack 36, Cowboys 33

Rams (+3) @ Lions (51.5)

Before this game starts I’d recommend betting the Rams’ Superbowl future because when they blow out Detroit you’re not getting +4500 again. The Sam LaPorta injury is a huge deal to the Lions, allowing the defense to focus on Amon-Ra. On the other side of the ball this high powered Rams offense should have no problem scoring early and often. Put it in the books, you will see Puka Nacua hoisting the Lombardi.  Rams 42, Lions 16

Eagles (-3) @ Bucs (43.5)

I wasn’t sure what to do with this game until I saw Jake picking the Eagles. Sometimes you just need to follow the fade. The Eagles have collapsed, everyone’s hurt and they’ve lost 5 of the last 6. Maybe they eek out a win but I’ll still take the points at home with Baker on MLK Day.

Eagles 21, Bucs 20

It’s good to have Jake’s Takes back even if he goes 0-6 on the best weekend of football. Happy wild card weekend everyone.

The Thanksgivingesis

We’ve made it to the best holiday of the year. I always harken back to the first Thanksgiving and all the wisdom Squanto shared with the white man. Everyone knows that he showed them how to grow crops and hunt and fish. What they won’t tell you is that Metacomet invented sports betting and today we have NFL games in his honor.

Packers +7.5 @ Lions (46.5)

The Lions had a rough game against the Bears, they will not be as unprepared for this game after that wake up call. Like a good host, Goff has covered the spread every Thanksgiving. On top of that he’s been the most profitable QB to back the past 5 years, 46-26 ATS. Expect the Lions to have a statement game against a bad Packers team.

Lions 31, Pack 10

Commies +12.5 @ Cowboys (48.5)

Has a team ever embodied Thanksgiving more than Washington? They feigned respect for Native American culture and then when things got hot tried to erase it from history. Also you only get about halfway through both Thanksgiving and a Washington football game before you’re drunk and falling asleep. Anyway, the Cowboys have covered 1 spread of their last 12 on Thanksgiving. I don’t care who they’re playing or what the spread is, you fade Dallas here. I believe Sammy Howell will get us a backdoor cover for Metacomet.

Dallas 23 , Washington 13

49ers -7 @ Seahawks (43)

We cap the night off with this game that I don’t know what to do with. It sounds like Geno is playing and the Niners seem to have picked up where they left off before Brock Purdy got his bell rung. For those reasons I took the over at 43. It has moved up a bit since but I’m just hoping for a good game I don’t really need to watch so I can focus on chasing my losses at the annual Thanksgiving poker game.

49ers 27, Seahawks 20

The Antithesis

I’ve decided to return after my first post in week 1 was sabotaged by windows notepad. Somewhere in that unreadable formatting abortion I correctly predicted the Lions upset over KC in week 1 as well as the rise of Sam LaPorta. I figured what better time to make another rambling post than the week of Bick’s Picks’ Superbowl against the New England Patriots. Some people aren’t aware of this but I’ve amassed a small fortune fading Bick’s Picks and have since retired.

Who Will Hoist the Stein?

With all the big name quarter backing this week including Clayton Tune, Tommy DeVito, Jaren Hall, Tyson Baguette (Those are not real names, Joey); we are stuck with this Mahomes-Tua matchup first thing in the morning. As soon as the Chiefs were embarrassed last week by the Broncos I had this one circled. Mahomes is 16-3 after a loss, and as a favorite under a field goal he is 19-6 ATS. Miami is 4-10 against teams with a winning record. As Till Lindemann says – Tua, Tua Hast, Tua Hast not beaten a team over .500 since the Bills in week 3 of LAST SEASON.

KC 27 – Miami 24

Riding the Commuter Rail

The betting public wins around 40%, however there are times when we need to jump on the T and roll the dice alongside the creatures who call our public transportation home. I might be forcing this one in here due to the circumstances, but give me my New England Patriots. I have no confidence in noodle arm Mac, just like every team who did not want to trade for him, but I’m banking on Washington having shipped away their defense to give us a chance. Ron Rivera might be trying to get fired as soon as possible and this could be the one. Really, the biggest losers are those of us invested in this game.

New England 20 – Washington 13

Red Robin

This section is sponsored by Red Robin gourmet burgers and brews. It never hurts to throw a little on a round robin for all your bets. The Panthers are the only home dawg on Sunday and I love them +3 as well as the money line.

  • New England Patriots -3
  • KC Chiefs -1.5
  • Carolina Panthers +3/ML
  • LV Raiders -1.5
  • Arizona @ Cleveland Under 38.5

Week 1 Thursday : Antithesis

The Antithesis – Lions @ Chiefs -4.5

In an off the record conversation, a man known as Jake told me "I don't look at no dang trends" as he put his money on the Chiefs with no Chris Jones, no Travis Kelce. So I said that disrespect will get you an antithesis for the very first game of the year.

Here are a few of those trends, against the spread.
  • Jared Goff is 6-0 in week 1. He is the most profitable QB in the past 5 years at 48-32-2.
  • Patrick Mahomes is 14-25 when favored over a field goal since 2020.
  • The Lions have never lost a week 1 Thursday night game.
Detroit has a solid run game that will shred the KC defense without Jones. Expect 12th overall pick Jahmyr Gibbs to have a heavy work load in his debut. Jones also held the third highest pressure rate for interior linemen last year. This bodes well for the other rookie Sam LaPorta. He is the only tight end I drafted, so that brilliant insight will be on full display tonight.
Finally, I have on good authority from one of the sharpest bettors who works in or around Boston that Goff will throw for 4 TDs this game. I do still see the Chiefs winning on a late drive in an absolute barn burner but give me the Lions to cover. Chiefs 37-34

Week 4 : The Antithesis

Welcome to the first installment of “NFL Betting Guide – The Antithesis” . There will be no hard hitting analysis of X’s and O’s. You won’t find profound insight to anything at all. I don’t care how the third string tackle fits into this scheme because he was coached by Bones Weatherly in college. The only thing you’ll get out of this is cold hard CASH.

An Agreement

Jake, of Jake’s Takes, had a rare good pick on the Week 4 NFL betting guide. Choosing a team to ride with all season is like picking a horse you are willing to live or die by. That horse is Trevor Lawrence. Looking at the way these two teams started the season you’d expect both to have inflated value here. This one opened at Philly -7 and that is complete disrespect to the Jags. It’s been bet down to 6.5 and has not come back which tells me I’m on the right side of history in this Doug Pederson revenge game. I’ll take the Jags to win it outright as well after destroying the Colts and Chargers. Jags 23, Eags 20

A Disagreement (Antithesis)

Some people say if you want guaranteed income you should invest in property, or the stock market, or Dogecoin. I don’t know about all that but I do know that if you just fade the lock of the week you’ll have a higher return than any of those options. Simply put, the Bills are in rough shape right now. The Ravens are 15-3-1 ATS as home dogs. A rainy, windy day in Baltimore is also exactly what you need for a low scoring grind it out cover. Give me the Ravens in another upset special.

A Bonus Lock

I’ll leave the reader with a nickel’s worth of free advice about survivor pools. The only advantage you have is to pick against everyone else. You need to find spots that you can put your nuts on the table and this week that looks like the Steelers. They are 3 to 3.5 point favorites against the Jets at Pittsburgh. I love that Zach Wilson is starting for the loser franchise. This one feels like a lock all the way around. Tomlin is itching to see what Kenny Pickett can do and Trubisky hears the footsteps. He’s like a cornered animal and he’s fighting for this life. Expect fireworks from Trubisky; 350 yards and 3 TDs. Steelers win it 34-10.
